For entrepreneurs
You do not need a roastery to start
A private label coffee brand lets you sell coffee under your own name while a partner handles sourcing, roasting, and packing. It is the fastest way to test a brand, serve a niche, or add a product line to an existing café, hotel, or retail business.
Define your brand
Choose your audience, price point, and story. Are you targeting specialty cafés, offices, fitness brands, or eco-conscious consumers? Your positioning decides the origin, roast level, and packaging style.
Pick your coffee
Work with a wholesale roaster or importer to select a roast profile and origin. Ethiopian single-origins like Yirgacheffe or Guji are strong choices for premium private labels because they have recognizable flavor stories.
Design your packaging
Most private-label partners let you supply bag artwork or offer template designs. You will need a brand name, logo, origin story, tasting notes, and required information like net weight and roast date.
Order small, then scale
Start with a small run to test demand. Many programs allow minimum orders as low as 25 lb. Once you validate the product, move to larger volumes and lower per-unit costs.
What to look for in a private label partner
A good partner offers more than a bag with your logo. Look for transparent sourcing, consistent roasting, flexible minimums, and supply-chain support. The best partners can also help with origin stories, cupping notes, and export documentation if you plan to sell internationally.
Pricing and margins
Private label coffee typically costs more per pound than unbranded wholesale because it includes roasting, packaging, and labor. Your margin depends on positioning. Specialty Ethiopian lots support premium retail pricing, while commercial blends work better for high-volume subscription or office programs.
